This award is only conferred to particularly creative, innovative and high quality products. The jury examined, tested and evaluated every product according to innovation level, functionality, longevity, economic compatability, ergonomic aspects and the quality of self declaration.
In total 3,203 products from 51 nations faced the expert judgement this year. The festive awards presentation will take place on 23 June 2008 in the Essen Opera House, the Aalto Theatre.

Headlamps are the eyes of a car and contribute significantly to the brand's appearance. Developing the full-LED headlampf or R8, Audi and Automotive Lighting stroke a new path in Design and Lighting Technology. Therewith, AL enhanced the Audi styling consequently and realised it technologically. This means, all lighting functions in LED technology, i. e. low beam, high beam, turn indicator, daytime running light and position light - a challenge that needed extraordinary ideas. Over 20 innovations have been integrated in this innovation and provide a preview of central topics of future lighting technology: Design, technology and energy consumption.

LEDs open up entirely new possibilities for the designers. Unusual contours can be realized. Twenty-four closely spaced white Advanced Power Top LEDs provide for the homogenous appearance. The light band of the DRL in combination with the LED turn signal frames the headlamp and forms a so far unique three-dimensional illuminated sculpture. The greatest advantage of the white LEDs lies in their light colour, which is also called the colour temperature. With approx. 6,000 Kelvin, this is nearly equal to the quality of daylight. The headlamp of the R8 is also crucial in questions for the reduction of fuel and energy consumption as well as CO2 emissions.
